The Oakland Raiders have exercised DPOY Khalil Mack’s fifth-year option

The Oakland Raiders made an obvious move on Thursday, exercising Defensive Player of the Year Khalil Mack’s fifth-year option. The Raiders announced the move Thursday afternoon. The Raiders selected Mack with the fifth-overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft and he has since emerged into one of the league’s premier defenders over his first three seasons, adding AP First Team All-Pro selections in back-to-back seasons, along with the DPOY. For his career, Mack has totaled 240 tackles, 30 sacks, eight forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, one interception return for a touchdown and 12 passes defensed, all while starting all 48 games. Mack had his best year last year when earning the league’s top defensive award, recording 77 tackles, five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, one interception, one touchdown and four passes defensed. During the year, he tied an NFL record by notching a sack in eight consecutive games. Picking up the option was just the start of things between the former University Buffalo star, now him and general manager Reggie McKenzie will begin working on a long-term contract that will keep him in the Silver & Black...

The Oakland Raiders have retained four free agents

The Oakland Raiders announced Monday that they have retained four of their own free agents from this offseason. Defensive lineman Denico Autry entered the offseason as a restricted free agent but has been retained by the Silver & Black. Autry will be entering his fourth season for the Raiders after appearing in all 16 games last year with seven starts, while posting 37 tackles, 2.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries. Autry is also a key piece to the special teams, having blocked four kicks (two PATs and one field goal) over the last two seasons. The Raiders also have kept three exclusive rights free agents: TE Gabe Holmes, G Denver Kirkland and WR Seth Roberts. Holmes missed all of last year after suffering an injury in last year’s preseason opener. Kirkland is entering his second season with the Raiders, appearing in six games (four starts) for the team in 2016 while playing primarily as an extra offensive lineman after TE Lee Smith was injured. Roberts joined the team as an undrafted free agent in 2014 and is entering his fourth season. He goes into the new year after setting a career high with 38 receptions last year, adding 397 yards and five touchdowns. He has also proven to be a key target for quarterback Derek Carr late in games, hauling in four game-winning touchdowns over his last three...
