The long wait is over, Jon Gruden is finally returning to the football sideline and it will be for the Oakland Raiders.

Shortly after announcing the AFC Wild Card game between the Tennessee Titans and Kansas City Chiefs, the Oakland Raiders announced that they have hired Gruden to fill the opening left after Mark Davis fired Jack Del Rio after the last game of the season.

The Raiders will introduce “Chucky” on Tuesday with a press conference scheduled for noon. The day marks just one day after the 20-year anniversary of the day Gruden first signed on the dotted line to be the head coach in 1998.

He last coached for the Silver & Black when the Raiders lost to the New England Patriots in the infamous “Tuck Rule Game”, and was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers shortly after. He beat the Raiders in the 2002 Super Bowl the very next year

In all, Gruden has compiled a 95-and-81 record during his first run as the Raiders and Bucs coach from 1998-2008. Since then, Gruden has served as an analyst for ESPN’s Monday Night Football.

Gruden will be inheriting a Raiders team that struggled, finishing with a highly-disappointing 6-and-10 record after going 12-4 in 2016.

The hire is largely expected to help right the ship of franchise quarterback Derek Carr, who had a disappointing season after competing for MVP in 2016. Carr threw for 3,496 yards and just 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions this year.
