The Oakland Raiders signed veteran linebacker Derrick Johnson earlier this offseason but that’s not stopping them from looking for more pieces to their defensive puzzle.

Yahoo Sports’ Jordan Schultz is reporting the team is scheduled to host veteran linebacker Mychal Kendricks, who was released by the Philadelphia Eagles last week.

It was a bit surprising that the Eagles released the 27-year-old linebacker given their lack of depth of the position, but Kendricks did ask to be traded prior to last year. He was heading into the fourth of a five-year contract extension that he signed in 2015.

The former second-round pick of the 2012 NFL Draft appeared in 15 games (13 starts) for the Super Bowl champions last year, tallying 51 tackles, two sacks and six passes defensed.

Kendricks is originally from Fresno and played his college ball at the University of California, Berkeley.
